When tragedy strikes, we often look back and say: “what could we have done to avoid this situation?” When it comes to a shooting, like the one that happened recently in Texas, sometimes the person holding the gun had a history of mental health issues. Unfortunately, nothing can be done for the victims of such tragic events, but action can be taken when it comes to mental health evaluations. Taking the necessary precautions to avoid issues arising from mental health struggles might save lives.

Getting  mental health evaluations for yourself and your teen should be something people regularly do, just like going to get a physical. Unfortunately, due to the stigma surrounding mental health throughout the world, not many people get mental health evaluations. If your family has a history of mental health issues, such as bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, or personality disorders, it’s even more pertinent for mental health evaluations to be a regular occurrence for you and your teen.
